Differences are often times identified and focused on in the context of issues or problems.
Generational differences are better thought of as opportunities.
Dialogue on the value differences across generations presents an opportunity for recognition of the differences as just that differences; there is an opportunity for this dialogue to lead to a better understanding among diverse team members.
Leaders of diverse teams need to be keenly aware of the opportunity presented by an understanding of the differences.
Clear recognition of the generational differences allows leaders to select the appropriate levers and triggers to motivate, encourage, and drive high performance from team members in different generations.
Understanding the generational differences also allows leaders to select varying ways to reward and recognize their team’s contributions in ways that truly resonate with them.
